Nevada Gov. Gibbons used state cell phone to text his mistress

Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons, who famously was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a parking garage a month before Election Day 2006, has been going through a rocky divorce from his wife of 22 years.  Now it has emerged that he used his state cell phone to text and call his apparent mistress at all hours of the night.

Gov. Jim Gibbons, who is estranged from his wife, used his state cell phone to send more than 860 text messages in one month last year with a woman he says is a longtime friend, a newspaper reported.

Because the state didn't have a text messaging plan, each message cost 15 cents for a total of $130 during the March-April 2007 period when the messages were sent, according to documents obtained by the Reno Gazette-Journal. Spokesman Ben Kieckhefer said Gibbons reimbursed the state for the charges.

The 63-year-old Republican governor filed for divorce in May from his wife, Dawn, after nearly 22 years of marriage. On Monday, attorneys for both spouses said the divorce proceedings were being put on hold and they would live separately on the governor's mansion grounds while they try to resolve their issues.

In a court brief filed two weeks ago, Dawn Gibbons accused her husband of ending their marriage because of his "infatuation and involvement" with the wife of a Reno doctor, but the governor has said she is a friend.

But this is the kicker:

On one Friday, for example, Gibbons and the woman exchanged 160 texts between 8:30 a.m. and 11:45 p.m. On another night, they sent 91 messages between midnight and 2 a.m.

I can only imagine what they were talking about THAT night.  Seriously, there is something fundamentally wrong with Jim Gibbons.
